The Kentucky State Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologist require a total of 1800 hours of instruction. The first 300 hours of instruction includes classroom lectures, demonstration, and mannequin practice in basic hair styling fundamentals.
After the student accomplishes the 300 hour basic program, they move to the clinic area where actual performance with the learned hair technique is demonstrated on patrons. This is the "learning by doing" process. All work is done under the direct supervision of an instructor. As the student learning process advances, they are given more difficult assignments to further their scope ability. They will continue in the classroom setting during a portion of their time to add to the basic knowledge obtained. Hands on work in a clinical setting simulate true life work experience.
After successfully completing the 1800 hour Cosmetology course including scoring a minimum of 75% on the Nu-Tek final, the student is issued a diploma by Nu-Tek and will be eligible to apply to take the State Exam. After passing the State's Exam, the student is issued an apprentice Cosmetology License by that agency
